Bagaweet

The name of Bagaweet, (meaning a language of the south) reflects its focus on young people from three Upper Egypt governorates, namely Red Sea, Luxor and Aswan. THAAT is an award-winning social enterprise that enables women working in the area of handicrafts to improve their social and economic wellbeing and also helps to preserve and revive traditional crafts from Egypt, Africa and the Middle East. Through a joint collaboration between DROSOS FOUNDATION and Alex Bank, THAAT is establishing a sustainable social and cultural entrepreneurship model that will empower 200 artisans in the creation of a local marketable brand for their products, and encompasses crochet, fabrics, leather, wicker, ceramics and more. In the longer term, the project aims at providing a decent and sustainable income for the participating youth. Alongside, the foundation of a design hub in the south aims at improving services along the handicrafts value chain for emerging creative entrepreneurs.
