Care Leavers Worldwide – Personal Development Through Social Engagement Abroad

The framework conditions of government-sponsored placement programmes abroad are usually so demanding that young people who grew up in homes or foster care are usually unable to participate. The project enables 60 care leavers to overcome these hurdles and thus volunteer their time for social projects abroad. The project is exploring a range of new ways of supporting care leavers to participate equally in stays abroad, such as mentoring, specific preparatory and follow-up seminars and financial assistance. By publishing experience reports, evaluation results and diaries, the project raises awareness among existing placement programmes of the challenges faced by care leavers and develops sustainable solution strategies.

The project is part of the initiative «Brückensteine Careleaver».
