Clear the stage!

For over 20 years, the Nickern children’s farm in Dresden has applied methods of outdoor education to support children in their development. In their work with children and teenagers, the educators make use of the numerous possibilities offered by the farm, its natural environment and the practical necessities involved in running an agricultural business. Many members of the Nickern farm association contribute on a voluntary basis by offering creative projects and art and craft courses. The annual farm festival is well known throughout Dresden.
The Drosos-funded project Bühne frei! (Clear the stage!) involves turning an additional building into a children’s farmhouse that will enable children and youth to participate in activities throughout the year, regardless of the weather. In the new programme, elements of performance such as dance, art and theatre will be combined with social and animal-related educational activities. Together with the educators, participants will develop stage shows that will be performed for the local neighbourhood. This project will give about 40 young people the opportunity to participate in activities offered on the farm all year round.
