Dar Sanaa – The house of handicrafts

The objective of the project is to improve the socio-economic conditions of 80 women from the old Medina of Fes. It involves setting up and supporting six cooperatives specialising in embroidery, tapestry, weaving and carpet-making, traditional sewing, hammam cosmetics and catering. They are all located in Dar Sanaa, a traditional Moroccan house (riad) in the old Medina of Fes. The women use this location to produce, display and sell their handicrafts and products. Dar Sanaa is in a part of the old Medina of Fes that is popular with tourists, so it is an ideal place to showcase the cooperatives.
The partner organisation is also developing new techniques for providing support and marketing, which are designed specifically for the cooperatives. They focus on multidisciplinary training, organising marketing events and the involvement of the young girls trained at the cooperatives.
