Economic Empowerment for Vulnerable Women

Female heads of households in Ezbet El Haggana, a slum area in Cairo, are economically empowered through training and the setting-up of a social enterprise in the form of a kitchen. Over 200 women are trained in cooking and basic economic skills and also receive certification from the Ministry of Manpower to enhance their employment prospects and labour rights. Those women who excel will be recruited in a kitchen producing home cooked meals for schools, factories and other clients including the general public.
The jointly owned and managed kitchen provides a sustainable source of income for both the women and the partner organization to continue providing services to the community also after the end of the project. In parallel with this, a safe space for the working mothers’ children is being set up to encourage children’s personal development and enhance their prospects for a better future.
