HIV Prevention and treatment in prisons

The project aims to establish HIV prevention services in three prisons. Voluntary counselling and testing centres will be established and promoted, so that prison inmates have access to effective and quality harm reduction services. The prison staff’s specialist knowledge of ethical standards will be improved to ensure prisoners who use the services are not stigmatised. UNODC, in collaboration with the relevant authorities, will support the ongoing provision of services after the project ends.
Finally, the project aims to create sustainable partnerships between civil society organisations, the Ministry of the Interior and the Ministry of Health to ensure evidence-based prevention programmes in prisons and aftercare services for released prisoners.
