Inclusive classrooms

The project aims to provide support for 400 children with disabilities as they start attending regular schools in three regions of Morocco. Collaboration between the various stakeholders (schools, families, specialist centres and local organisations) is also encouraged.
Six specialist centres will be identified and receive support to become leaders in the provision of special education for children with disabilities. 18 pilot schools, 18 directors and 225 teachers will take part in the project and learn about inclusive education, so that this approach can be integrated into their schools. Throughout the project, awareness raising activities about inclusive education will target 30 stakeholders in the field of education, 600 representatives from public institutions and the education system, 800 parents of children with disabilities, as well as 500 representatives from civil society and the general public. Finally, local initiatives will be encouraged and supported to ensure the continuity of the activities.
This project is part of the activities undertaken by Handicap International to promote the education of children with disabilities. An initial project entitled ‘Towards inclusive education for children with disabilities in the town of Salé’ was implemented with the support of Drosos Foundation.
