Music Ensemble

Since 2011 the Conservatoire de Musique de Genève has been successfully working with children and young people in two districts of Geneva that are home to a high proportion of residents with a migrant background and people facing social challenges.
The musical training is based on the El Systema concept, a model from Venezuela in which young people learn to play an instrument in an orchestra and receive training in classical music. Personal reflection and dialogue with others through art promotes social and emotional intelligence, independent thought, assertiveness and creativity.
The project is divided into two individual parts. Firstly, the Grand Orchestre Music Ensemble is adding a symphony orchestra for advanced and highly motivated young people. Over the next 4 years, around 150 young people will rehearse twice a week and learn another instrument, performing up to six concerts each year. Secondly, young people will study a wind instrument in the youth institution La Clairière/Geneva in accordance with the El Systema concept in preparation for a public concert.
