Passion to Profit

The project supports 350 unemployed youth aged 18-29 years to establish their own micro business to become active in the labour market. To this end, the project establishes a community-based micro- business support centre in Greater Cairo and Aswan governorates to access disadvantaged youth in villages and peri-urban communities. Emphasis is placed on supporting such business ideas that address basic and social needs within the respective community. Nurseries, rooftop farming, paper and plastic recycling, dairy production, honey production, and future skills development for children are among the proposed micro-businesses identified by the targeted communities. The project uses the community assets and the main economic activities while supporting youth developing their businesses. The community center provides several services as needed such as vocational and technical training, technology support, marketing, legal advice, and financial management. It also provides equipment and materials for production. The youth will be encouraged to give back to the community center after establishing their businesses to support other youth. The partner organisation will mobilize the private sector to support youth’s microbusiness, as this is one of their organisational strength. The project will build the partner’s capacity and explore different modalities for sustainability and supporting self-employment for young people.
