Productive Youth

Egyptian heritage serves as an inspiration for a range of crafts across the country, in particular in Upper Egypt. Textile weaving and woodcarving are two recognised handicrafts that are well established in the Qena and Luxor governorates of Upper Egypt. Creating new designs, opening new markets and encouraging young people to excel are the aspirations of the Productive Youth project. The Community Capability Development and Environmental Protection Association, known as REDEC, provides vocational training for young people and supports them as they develop their small businesses. Two workshops and outlets for wood and textile have been established to support the ongoing production of quality products.
