Reviving the Egyptian Inlay Craft

Creative industries, such as handicrafts, can contribute to enhancing the employability of and generating income for young people while promoting the development of old heritage.
Reviving the traditional Egyptian inlay craft in Old Cairo District is at the heart of the project Karama (dignity in Arabic). The artisan workshops in the old neighbourhood for various crafts such pottery, inlay, glass blowing and brass work engage young people to upgrade the workshops and enhance productivity and product marketability.
Business support services is being facilitated by the partner. Through providing high quality training and apprenticeship opportunities for the most promising trainees in specialized workshops, the product quality, design and innovations create bridges for accessing new local and international markets.
