Support for the pottery community of Old Cairo

To restore and preserve pottery as a craft that is integral to Egyptian heritage, this project aims to improve the living conditions of the potters as well as the quality of their products and the productivity of traditional workshops.
A new pottery business centre is being established, providing the potters with training and services in production, management and marketing to enhance the quality and diversity of their products and to help them make their prices more competitive so that they can enter new markets. Essential social services such as literacy and life skills classes will also be provided to meet the social needs of the families in this neighbourhood.
In parallel with this, the professional pottery association will be empowered to take on an active role in representing and addressing the needs of the industry and its workers. The association will give the potters a voice, help them promote their case among decision-makers and negotiate for better product pricing and fairer working conditions.
