Discover your home region

In the Heim(at)Arbeit project, young people take a look at the situation in their home region of Oderbruch in East Brandenburg. On the one hand, this involves investigating local job prospects. Businesses share their experiences and consequently provide an insight into different working environments. 8th and 9th grade students receive help to prepare for these discussions and learn to conduct and document structured interviews.
On the other hand, the project explores the cultural landscape of the Oder Valley, enabling the young participants to become better acquainted with its history and nature. So, in addition to offering professional guidance, the project helps participants to develop a respectful attitude towards their local region. During the holiday season, mixed-age summer workshops at the local museum provide an opportunity for further intensive work on the issues raised above. Creative methods such as storytelling and artistic work are used to process the knowledge gained during the discussions, as well as the objects brought along by the participants. The young people present their viewpoints to the general public in a series of exhibitions and newsletters which they have created themselves.
